Modeling Locations on Staging

On Staging, head to the Locations tab to define and model the spatial hierarchy of your building. This lets you organize equipment within physical spaces.

Creating Locations

  • Click the Add Location button to create a new spatial object.
  • You must select a Location Type:
    • Options include: Corridor, Floor, Room, or Stairwell.
  • Each location must have a unique name within the building.
  • Location names cannot match the name of any published equipment.
Creating a Location

Modeling Locations

Each location can reference:

  • Contains Location – to nest one space within another (e.g., a room inside a floor
    • You cannot assign a Floor as a “contained location” under another location (Floors must remain top-level).‍
  • Contains Equipment – to associate equipment with a physical space.
    • The Contains Equipment field will only show published equipment, unpublished equipment will not appear in this list.

Using this feature lets you accurately mirror your building’s physical layout and ensure equipment is properly grouped under relevant spaces.
